SOP on Calibration of Weighing Balance (Platform)



1.0 Purpose: This SOP describes a method for calibration of weighing balance.

2.0 Scope: This SOP applies to Stores staff.

3.0 Responsibility: Stores keeper to ensure that procedure is followed.

4.0 Materials and Equipment: Calibrated Weights

5.0 Procedure: Weighing balance possesses a high degree of sensitivity in order to give true weight of samples. The following precautions must be observed – 

5.01 Ensure cleanliness of weighing balance.
5.02 Ensure that weighing balance used for weighing should be set at zero.
5.03 Ensure that calibrated weights are cleaned and free from any visible dust particles. 
5.04 Place one by one all calibrated weights (i.e. 10g, 100g, 500g, 1.0kg & 2.0kg) on balance and record weights as displayed on weighing balance scale.
5.05 Repeat the weighing of each weight at least two to three times to ensure accuracy and reproducibility.
