SOP on Wash Water Analysis
1.0 Purpose: This SOP describe a procedure for the analysis of wash water of an equipment.
2.0 Scope: To ensure that the equipment are cleaned properly.
3.0 Responsibility: Quality Control Chemist to ensure that the procedure is followed.
4.0 Materials and Equipment:
pH meter
weighing balance
hot plate
stoppered test tube, 50ml
5.0 Procedure: Collect a minimum quantity 500ml of wash water of an equipment and carry out the following tests as follows –
5.01 Visual Inspection – Take 20 ml of sample in a test tube and check visually. The liquid should be colourless and free from any visible particles.
5.02 pH – Take 50ml of sample in a beaker and immerse the electrodes of pH meter in it and check the pH. It should be between 5.0 and 7.0 and comparable to the pH of purified water.
5.03 Total Dissolved Solids – Take 100ml of sample in a previously weighed beaker and evaporate to dryness on a hot plate. Cool the beaker to room temperature and weigh. The residue weight should not be more than 10mg in comparison to the value obtained by treating 100ml of purified water in a similar manner .
5.04 Presence of detergent – Take 10ml of sample in a 50ml stoppered test and shake vigrously up & down and check for any froth. The sample should not show any froth or presence of detergent.
6.0 Reporting: Record the results in analysis report.
